Functional Movement Patterns
With Chris Watson, Bachelor of Science Sports Management, Personal Trainer Goodlife Fitness,CSCS
I have worked with a lot of clients post physio and focused on proper posture and body mechanics but not speed. So I asked Chris if he thought increasing speed would help recovery. This is our actual text messages. Thanks Chris!
Hey Chris, maybe you’ll write an article on this and let me post it on twhealthhumor.com. I had whiplash a few times in the past and then kept getting more-and-more clients who were in car accidents. So I would focus on slow, controlled movement. But now I’m thinking once the range-of-motion is established, maybe the exercises should be done quicker. The slower the movement the more stress it seems to put on the neck. I’d like your sports opinion on it. Thanks. And Happy New Year!!!
Happy new new year Dan! I think once the range of motion is back it is important to start recruiting functional movement patterns by doing very light weight but fast tempo exercises. This will create faster mind to muscle connection and increase the persons functional athletic ability. The nervous systems will then improve and because of the speed their motor skills will be developed. These are just some of my personal opinions from experience. Thanks for the text! Not sure I can write your article but I hope this helps. Talk soon!
