I was training a new client explaining about the importance of breathing and listening to the body. She did light weights as we discussed proper form and technique when she started making a strange uuuh sound. I asked her if she wanted an ambulance (you only have to ask until someone goes unconscious) and she said yes and to call her daughter. I had no idea how to work her phone but I did use one the gym’s phones to call 9-1-1. The good news is that a calendar’s worth of Firefighter and Paramedic men arrived, lifted her up on a stretcher and whisked her away. I figured that was the last time I would train her but she came back and explained that she hadn’t eaten for about four hours and was dehydrated. Eat something within an hour of exercising!
While we waiting for everyone to be available to take some exercise pictures I read: Nancy Clark’s “Sports Nutrition Guidebook”.
Along with information on how much to eat she discusses when to eat. An interesting concept Nancy made in the book is: eat most of your food during breakfast and lunch so you eat less for supper. When you are awake you constantly use calories, however, just before bed your metabolism slows down and you burn minimum calories. Something to think about.
In about two weeks we’ll start adding exercise and stretches again!
