Rhomboid (major & minor) Stretch

Our rhomboid muscles (shaped like…you guessed it, rhomboids!) are located around our upper/mid back and attach between our spine and the inside border of our shoulder blades on each side.

They help us mainly with stabilizing and bringing our shoulder blades together behind us (retraction) so we can perform actions like opening drawers and pulling things toward us (eg. rowing). They often tend to become under used and weak, adding to the slumped shoulders/hunched back posture associated with poor sitting habits and can sometimes be the culprit when experiencing burning sensation in the upper/mid back after long hours in a mostly static position (desk work!!). Luckily to stretch them out is a breeze, and this can even be done while seated at your work station!

Bring the arm you’d like to stretch across your chest at a 90 degree angle and with the opposite hand, pull your bent elbow in toward your chest and up slightly while simultaneously relaxing the shoulder you’re stretching as much as you can.

Hold each stretch for at least 30 seconds if possible.
